Nalanda Open University is a public educational institution. It is the 4th oldest Open University of the country. Also during its existence of the last 25 years, the University has contributed immensely in spreading higher education through the distance mode of learning.

Being situated in an urban area, lakhs and lakhs of students are attracted towards the Nalanda Open University.

The placement ranking of the university is much better compared to most of the open universities, which is why it is considered as one of the best open university in India. Also, the university is recognized to University Grant Commissions as well as Distance Education Council and Ministry of HRD.

Admission process:

The online admission process for the year 2020 of the Nalanda Open University is on its process. The deadline provided in the last week of September month,2020.

The first thing is to buy a prospectus either from the University’s sale counter or from one of its study centres.

A new system called the University Management Information System (UMIS) has been launched for the admission process. It has been launched by H.N. Prasad, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda Open University.

Eligibility criteria:

Before applying for admission in any of the course offered by the university, candidates should be very well aware of the eligibility criteria composed by the university.

Candidates should pay strict attention to the eligibility criteria given below:

For PG Courses:

  1. For Science Subjects:
  • Candidate should have a Bachelors Degree/ Equivalent degree in a respective science subject from a recognized institution/university.
  1. For Arts Subjects:
  • Candidate should have a Bachelors Degree/ Equivalent degree in any discipline from a recognized institution/university.
  1. For Commerce Subjects:
  • Candidate should have a Bachelors Degree/ Equivalent degree in commerce subjects from a recognized institution/university.

 

For UG Courses:

  • 12th passed in a respective stream from a recognized board.

For Intermediate Course:

  • 10th passed from any recognized board.

For Certificate Course:

  • 10th or 12th passed as per the requirement.

To fill the application form, follow the method as instructed below:

  • Register for admission.
  • Provide the details asked for in the application form.
  • Upload the documents asked for, such as photo, signature, Character Certificate, Migration Certificate, Medical Certificate, UG Mark sheet, PG Mark sheet, 10th and 12th Mark sheet, Passing Certificate etc. as required.
    (attest Caste Certificate if seeking admission on reserved quota.)
  • Check and Summit the form.

History:

Nalanda Open University is a government institution, established in March 1987. It was issued by the Government of Bihar. It is the only university to educate students through distance education in Bihar. In the year, 1995, the legislative of Bihar passed the Nalanda Open University Act. Automatically, the university came under the act. Inspired by the famous Buddhist Nalanda University, it was titled as Nalanda Open University.

The main purpose of this institution is to educate students in the best favourable condition. Most of the students are not in the position to continue their education in regular mode. Mostly students face various kinds of problems, one of which is financial problems. Students usually are forced to work and leave their studies forcing them to bury their dreams.

To help the students of the state, the Nalanda Open University was introduced to the state. It helped students with big dreams to work as well as continue their studies at the same time. Students who are not so well to do had not to worry about their financial problems because the institution charges are not burdensome at all.

The University has also helped women gain their identity and also has reduced the admission fee of up to 25%.

The University has also worked hard for the rights and proper status of Women and Children in society. Not only that, but the Institute also concentrates on its local languages so that the state doesn’t lose its heritance.

Infrastructure:

Overall, the infrastructure of the institution is historically fascinating.

About 60 thousand square feet area is covered by the university. University infrastructure consists of a library, laboratories, canteen, etc. including a girls’ hostel and a boys’ hostel and several counselling centres in the state.

It has also its mobile service app which is mainly introduced for helping people find information. The students of the university don’t struggle in case of language as both Hindi and English are used for teaching.
